The things my Wife and I enjoyed.
Matt's El Rancho, Franklin's BBQ (the best I have ever eaten) The wait was about 1 1/2 hours but we visited with other people in line from all over America and it went by fast. The Saxon Pub (nice venue for live music and very friendly people), the bats evening flight from commerce street bridge, boat tour on the lake, touring the capitol, driving over to Taylor and eating at Louie Muellers bbq. We really enjoyed Austin the few times we visited.

Rainey street is fun if you've never been but it's crowded early.

Stay at Kalahari in Round Rock or Westin at the domain if you want to get out of downtown Austin. Downtown Round Rock has a few nice bars too. I frequent them often. Also I see that Randy Rogers with Wade Bowen are going to be at Nutty Brown on the 17th.

What type of food or music do yall like?

The last couple of times I was in Austin the best thing was James McMurtry’s Wednesday night midnight show at the Continental Club.

Other than that, I try to avoid the town as much as possible.

              Edit:
Oh one more thing I enjoy in Austin: the state surplus store on the east side. Always a great place to score cheap knives and Leathermans that were confiscated from y’all at the airport.

Take the toll road outside of town, keep driving. Go somewhere better.

There is A LOT wrong with Austin these days, to be sure.

But if you can't have a fantastic time in Austin, you are a complete mongoloid, or you are an otherwise BORING mf.

Big town, lotsa cool stuff, try to be a big boy, and you'll be ok.

It’s a beautiful ride down to Austin. Look for a loop that goes around it and admire from a distance.

Make a day of it and head out just a little west (Dripping Springs!) and snag some breweries.

12 Fox is a personal fav - great beer, good ambiance and food trucks. Fitzhugh brewery has a ridiculously well kept secret in their chef - wont leave disappointed in their food. Treaty oak if you want some local spirits in there as well.

I always try to hit the favorites while I am in town.

                              Brunch - Moonshine
                              Lunch - Matt's El Rancho
                              Dinner - Ranch 616

If BBQ is on the menu, lots of great options - Franklin's, La BBQ, Valentine's, Whitfield's come to mind and worth the wait.
