You take the tray out on the dash and loosen two screws and remove the switch. If I remember correctly you put a jumper on the brown and white wires. It turns the switch off always and doesn't affect anything else. It took about 5 minutes to do.

I know Chevy had issues with the early models but i think they’ve got it figured out now. I’ve got 130k on my 2017 that’s been flawless. I’m sure the Ford will be the same. You should also be able to get a plug in that would deactivate that feature and you’ll have all 8 cylinders running all the time. I know quite a few Chevy guys have done that.
