Was considering buying a new F150 with the 5.0. This engine has been around for years and is well proven. However, Ford with encouragement from the government has decided to use a cylinder deactivation program for 2021 which causes the engine to run on four cylinders when it is lightly loaded. Would like to get some input from the guys that wrench these things on a daily basis. Is this something to avoid especially since this is the first year? Also, for the GM vehicles there is a programmer that plugs into the OBD port that disables this function. Is this available for the Fords?

Chevy had alot more issues with deactivation then running the same 4, same as ram hemi. You run into lifter issues, which will eat away at the cam.

Probably wouldn’t be an issue I would have known about the plug in override. There’s no way I’d take that chance again.
