25-30 yards when im in a tree and 30 in a ground blind. closer than 25 and they really are skittish. one small mistake at 25-30 and they may not run. same mistake/noise at 15-20 and they are gone... just my 2 cents... make sure wind is in your favor. to me thats just as important.

I found a great opening in the cedar on our place and set our pop up there. Thought our son was gonna try to take his first deer but he wanted to”be a watcher this time”. So our feeder is 16 yards from the pop up and we put out cotton seed and alfalfa about 25 yards from pop up. Let me tell ya, when a whitetail walks between you and the feeder things get really tight.
Going to redo the set after season.

I like 20 to the feeder. I hand corn just outside of the pen. If they are outside, I basically have a 15 yard shot. If inside, 15-25 yard shot depending where they turn broadside.
