Wow, the thread title caught my attention. I bought a Submariner in 1980 and paid around $1000 for it. Now that was a buddy deal, my friend's family owned a jewelry store and was a Rolex authorized dealer. But I think the counter price was around $1500 if memory serves me correctly. And dang now days that's the cost to service one. Wow how crazy. Worked offshore all summer to buy that watch.

I wear my Rolex everyday and only 1 time had anyone notice. My son hates that it goes hunting, or any of my watches for that mater. He said the gross stuff that comes out of the band after hunting season when he cleans it is nasty, lol.
Beauty of a mechanical watch is as long as you wear it , it keeps time. No battery to go dead and the higher end ones are very accurate, they just need upkeep.
I would second talking with Sergio on service for that Rolex.
