Sadly my watch man in Beaumont passed away from Covid a few months ago. He was always able to service both my wife's and mine but he was getting parts backdoored to him from some places. He told me early late last year that those parts avenues were drying up really fast, especially the screw on crowns and those components.

Rolex is clamping down on all parts so they can get back into the service business as another revenue stream. The watches have greatly appreciated in value, even to the point I have pondered selling my Submariner. I have what is considered "vintage patina" and evidently is is desirable.

Although I wear a Breitling, and not a Rolex, I highly recommend using an authorized repair/dealer for your particular brand. Thinking I would save a few dollars, I had my watch serviced by a local Houston jewelry. Big mistake on my part, they did half ***** job and ended up costing about the same as if I had sent it back to Breitling.
      Just my $.02.

        Try Kubes' Jewelers in FW.

        Family owned and great service.

        Ask for Brent.

That’s what my watch man said I needed the crown

I paid around $400 to have my Datejust cleaned a couple of years ago. It was a local place (in Fort Worth) that you could not physically go to (supposedly for security reasons). I had gone about 35 years without ever having my watch taken apart and cleaned, but it started losing a lot of time. The crown didn't operate like it should (a stop for winding, one for changing the date, and one for changing the time) since they cleaned it. My watch has now stopped.
About the same time mine was cleaned, I sent my wife's Datejust to a watch repair shop listed on Ebay that is in Tennessee. Her's was around $200 and we've had no problems.
I will not spend $500-$900 to get mine back in working order.

Check with Sergio with Johnathan's Jewelry in Houston. He is a sponsor here and definitely can get you in the right vein.

I had mine done last year but sent it in to Rolex. $1200 to get it done but it literally came back looking like a brand new watch. I don't think Rolex will work on them in the future if you go the cheaper route for service/repairs and try and send it to them later. I could be wrong but I checked that out before committing to letting Rolex do mine and I feel like there was something there. I'm not kidding about coming back looking literally brand new, I was shocked. I've had mine since about ~2012 and that was the first time I had it serviced so its not like you have to do it every year.

It has gone up quite a bit then.

Was $4-600 for the longest time.

I hardly ever get one serviced because I buy and sell so much.

I like to wear a watch and year and move on.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend a Rolex service company to you. You might want to search online for services near you and read testimonials from real customers. I don't know how much a real Rolex actually costs to repair, but I think $900 is a good price for an expensive watch. Maybe the jeweler you went to before gave you a big discount or just didn't know how to price their work. Rolex's are very expensive watches that I can't afford, so I'm glad there are fake rolex for sale. They look like the real thing, but I saved money in the process.

I second Kube's in Fort Worth for an option.

Otherwise here is a link to Grand Caliber in Dallas. They are all over YouTube and such. https://grandcaliber.com

In honor of Oscar I am doing a multi-quote!

Sergio. Be careful saving money having a Rolex serviced. You can end up with aftermarket junk parts that can make it work poorly if at all. Happened to me. Sergio fixed me up.

Rolex will replace parts and yes the watch will look like new. If it is a classic and you want the original parts for the most part send it to someone other than the Rolex facility in Dallas, a service center.
My son had my Rolex serviced and repaired in Ohio I believe it was, one of his contacts in the watchmaking world, and they replaced only the minimum parts in mine to keep it more original.
