If you have small children make sure that you include a barrier of some sort to keep them safe. Drowning is the #1 accidental killer of children under 4 years of age.

With the cost of these things what is the best way to finance these? I like cash on hand for emergencies, and with rates dropping, I don't want to sink too much cash into one. I'd like to hear from those that have been down this road and what options seem to be best.
I paid cash for ours last year, 60k. I did some research prior and was not interested in a home equity loan or high interest unsecured. With that said, that is an option. I've heard most use Lyon Financial for pools.

            Pools are expensive!!!

If I could dig my pool up, I’d pay you to take it. Constant PITA. We liked it for the first few years, now it’s just an expensive leaf catcher.

We love our pool and built in hot tub. Ours is completely enclosed so no leaves or bugs. Pretty easy to care for with the chlorine pucks, just check the water weekly and adjust as needed. We use our hot tub more in the winter but when the weather warms up all our grandkids come over and its a blast.

I agree with this. Then again, I agree with this on almost all purchases. I understand rates are low, but financing pools etc. generally is not a wise financial decision unless you plan to pay off quickly.

The cost of construction is just the beginning. This week I had to drop $3500 on a new control box, new lights, and pump repair. Don't do it.

We just got ours put in a couple months ago - big expense, but we dont plan on moving anytime soon, and never saw it as a return on investment type deal.

I love pools - kids love pools. I got 4 kids so it will definitely have its run.

Plus this house is intended to be our forever home so reselling isn’t a consideration (Lord willing). But we went into our house with a ton of equity so I think even if something did happen, we would be ok.

I do have to admit it’s pretty dang nice on these cold nights to heat up the spa and crawl in with a cold beer, look up at the stars and contemplate how good life is. [emoji51]
This exactly. Then this morning she says, "What do you think about the Madisonville/Huntsville area?"

I don't have the room to put one in, but agree with you. It's an expensive babysitter and if your kids enjoy it there is a mental deduction on your sanity.

Some friends of mine recently upgraded the guts of their pool with a heater.
It's useable all year long as long as they don't really crank it up to hot tub temperatures.

Sell your house and buy a new one with a pool.
