I realize it is not an investment, but an expense, and I realize that it is better to buy a house with an existing pool than to install one. We want one for reasons other than as an investment. I did look up the companies that offer financing for pools, and will be exploring options that they offer. Thanks for the input.
I am a GM for a pool builder in the Houston area. Yes, a nice custom pool with good equipment and warranties is expensive. Our's average in the $60-90k range but we have done several over $100k. I am designing one now that looks like it belongs at a resort and will cost the homeowner about $260k. 95% of our customers get an unsecured loan from Lion Financial. The other 5% are cash players utilizing savings or cash from Home equity. There are a lot of unscrupulous pool builders so beware of a builder who advertises prices way cheaper than competitors. You will likely end up with inferior equipment, issues down the road, or even worse...an unfinished pool. A high quality custom pool will not be cheap because the builder's cost to provide such a product isn't cheap. You would be shocked to see how much our cost actually is for using quality dependable subs. There is a lot of misinformation out there about pool builder profits.
We put a pool in a while back, and I have to say my family thoroughly enjoys it, I don’t regret it one bit. I will say I was not prepared for the $150-$200 worth of electricity it uses a month and $150 or so worth of propane it uses every month.
www.lightstream.com - I got a $100,000 loan to build my barn - was approved in one day and money was wired - it was the easiest and simplest transaction I have done in years - and terms were good - 4.9% for pools right now
Have used Lightstream for 3 vehicles over the past 6 years. Very easy and never a lien on the vehicles. They just look to me to repay.
Lyon financial was the company we used to do our remodel. they vet the contractor and make sure you have a good contract. they handle the funds disbursement and make sure the buyer is happy before paying out $$$. We then paid it off in about 4 months....Interest rates don't matter when the loan is that short term
I love our pool, and my wife loves it more. It is used everyday. I will get nothing or next to nothing when I sell our house. I would look to move to a house with a pool, have it inspected and updated and save some money.
