I know many prefer to hunt high because of being out of sight and smell of deer. I got it. But, what are thoughts and advice on hunting out of pop up blinds? Do you have to wear black inside of a blind? Can a pop up be set up in the open such as a power line? Please post pics of some setups. Thanks.

Stake them down with real Tent stakes use wire to stake off the hubs on each side and not the rope crap they provide. . And yes you can set them up in open areas as long as you use stakes to stake the hub eyes out with . And I mean good stakes that will not pull out of the ground.
Yes a black shirt is good to wear in them . pull all the shoot through mesh off of the tent start a fire with it you don’t need that crap on the windows. In most places deer don’t even pay the tent any mind after it’s been set up for about a week are so . Here in the back ground is one of my sets you can see it is in the open pretty much

I hunt out of an elevated pop-up blind on 18 acres. I have mixed experiences with this set-up. I always try to hunt to the wind, control scent as well as I can, and approach quietly 2-3 hours before I anticipate deer to come. Sometimes the deer come, and it's awesome. Other times, I go through an entire sit and only see rabbits and birds.
I would say if it's permanently fixed to a location like mine is, it only takes a few weeks for them to not even pay attention to it. Diisturbance to the area and scent lingering will be your biggest issue as it might make them avoid the area until well after dark.
If you're putting one up temporarily, like on public land make sure it's brushed in well, and the floor is cleared. I've never had an issue with not wearing black inside the blind, and I don't use the mesh screen. Make your movements slow, and you should have no issues. Get chapstick and coat the zipper opening of the blind to make entrances/exits more silent.Last edited by TexasArchery_27; 06-28-2019, 10:33 AM.

x3 on everything hoss said, the stakes they provide are crap, a good storm will knock it down the first time around.....It doesn't hurt to add a little native brush in to help the deer get used to it as quick as possible....the mesh windows are completely a waste like he said...if you're bowhunting make sure you sit in the blind with the chair you're hunting with and you draw you're bow back before you hunt it....make sure theirs no twigs and sticks in your shooting lanes that you can't see...other than that hoss covered it mostly

I love pop up blinds. Here are two of mine. I have shoot through mesh on the windows. I like using these because I don't have to worry about being still, or what I wear. I usually wear shorts and a dark t-shirt. I like to camouflage my blinds in. I even have a directional feeder camouflaged.
its hard to see, but there is a pop up blind in the 2nd pic too. The brush on the tree is my feeder.

I love a pop up blind myself, where I hunt though if you throw out a pop up in the open deer will avoid it like the plague, I brush mine in heavily and minimize my open windows to keep unnecessary light out, I have had great success with them over the years. They are super easy to pack in off the beaten path and are comfortable for multiple hour sits which I do quite often.

I brush mine in because I usually have to chop out a bunch of brush anyways. I wear a black shirt; take pic of yourself from the outside wearing camo and another wearing black and you’ll see why. Don’t know that it’s critical, but sure makes you harder to see. I also try to limit the direct sunlight coming through the windows (don’t open windows you don’t need).
Unlike above, I leave the mesh on to keep the skeeters out. That’s the only reason though. I’ve never noticed any arrow deflection or any negative consequences from it.
I also leave the cloth floor in mine to limit the mud when it’s wet.

1. How do you guys keep the snakes out?
2. What do you do for scent control?

My lease is all mesquites so it is basically impossible to hunt out of anything but a ground blind, except for around the one tank we have, but that is where all the cattle like to hang out. I do not wear camo anymore, it is all black and i believe that ground blinds hold your scent in better than any thing out there and that is not using any ozone or cover up scents. I have not sprayed any scents around my blinds and do not use any of the ozone products.
The best cover scent I have found is SMOKE. Smoke your clothes and hunt. If you are going to use a portable ground blind like the Rhino and such, use it to SMOKE your clothes, set up and be done with it!
SMOKE destroys odor causing bacteria. Research it and you will see!
