The Eternal Flame - Keep it Burning

Saturday night Grateful Dead concert out here. Not a lot of bowhunters but friendly folks.

Weekend weather didn't hold up, so got up this morning and decided to take him out so he could try out his own yak that he got for his Bday

              Bill... How was the concert?

              SwampRabbit... Very cool pic.

Russ...have you thought about a massage? My lower and upper back is/was jacked. Went for massage today. It released alot of overall tension. It was starting to hurt to draw 70 lbs.

Found this (8" walking stick) critter hunting in my peach trees this morning. It was spot stalk hunting by inspecting the underside of each leaf. It assumed this position upon the intrusion of my presence. My bad....Carry on.

I'm entertaining that idea later on in the week, so far the anti-inflammatory and painkillers are helping me

Made a run up to Midlothian for a safety meeting with our drivers yesterday. Got a little dose of the stomach irritation on the trip up and had to settle for immodium and a sprite to drink while everyone else dined on Pizza Hut buffet. Finally got hungry enough for some Buc-ees slab cheese and crackers with another sprite on the drive back home. I was getting sleepy driving home and my wife read the package, "may cause drowsiness." They were right. The sprite brought me back to finish the trip.

To quote, "There's nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. They're not the best at what they do, they're the only ones who do what they do". 1/2 of the concert is the crowd and the people. 83,000 people, I estimate 80,000 were stoned- but compared to a 49ers or soccer game there, I did not see or hear of any trouble in the audience.

A rainbow appearing on a dry day made the special event more memorable.

The end of an era, and for me my last of seeing them 8 times, listening to their records for 45 years, my wife and daughter's 1st time to see them, and I met my friend at Levis who took me to my 1st concert in high school in 1972.

I lost a very good friend and a good man 39 years ago today in a freak accident. I made up a special t shirt to wear at the concert, which I'm wearing today and I'll wear every July 3 going forward. The story is on the shirt, when I asked John if he wanted to go since I had an extra ticket in June of 1976, that is what he told me. We saw them play in Passaic, NJ on June 19 and he died July 3.

Fare thee well my good friend.

Here's a better picture of the rainbow that appeared on a dry day. Maybe Jerry Garcia saying goodbye? Maybe John saying thanks? God only knows.

Funny, looking at the picture if you look to the right of the giant screen and to the left of the tower with the suites, you can see the Santa Cruz mountains to the south. The peak farthest to the right is Mount Uhmunum (Indian word for hummingbird), and my house is in the valley below it.

Syl and I will take the oldest grandson kayaking for reds today. Later tonight we'll bike down to the port A marina and catch the awesome fireworks show over the ship channel. Life is good, count your blessings, hug the ones you love, and make it a great day.

Be safe and Happy Birthday Sam.
