I get a 3% discount if paid in October, a 2% discount if paid in November and a 1% discount if paid in December. It goes the other way after January.

If property taxes aren't bad enough, add some MUD taxes on top! We want to buy a house in our neighborhood, but the MUD tax is an additional 1.38%! Because of that, I refuse to buy there. You learn the MUD districts are a racket after you take the time to research them.

This is what amounts to theft. And yet you’ll hear others explain that it’s ok and blah blah blah. It never ends.

          This is kinda silly.

Did you know the land was in Texas when you bought it? Yes? Did you know you'd likely be subject to the laws and taxes the State of Texas imposes? If not, you probably didn't really think it through.

When you bought property in Texas, a property-tax State, you willingly subjected yourself to everything that goes along with it. You're still free to sell your property if you don't like it.

          Hardly "theft".

Check your local ballot for the propositions because many of them will include higher property tax rates on the ballot this year under some BS that reads "would you like to support local schools and teachers".....through raising the percentage you pay every year in property taxes. Despite sky rocketing property values increasing the amount of money collected in property taxes each year these schools and public entities keep wanting more and more. Its a racket.

Look no further than public schools. That's the biggest one.

I thought the tax situation in TX was pretty dang good. Try living in Illinois where you play $7k/ year in property tax on a 1400sq ft house, 5% income tax and the state/schools are still broke.

Someone has to pay for the schools, roads, etc... I'll pay gladly pay the $8-9k per year including MUD and not complain.

What ticks me off is when I read this morning about Montgomery county budget roll over. Problem with property tax is its subjective and abused.

I just got my tax bill. Live in the county on 28.5 acres. Nothing fancy by design.

Taxes were a little over $200.00
