At the Crosby 50th reunion last sat people that still live there were saying that the state might have to take over the district . . Supt and bus mgr both left last summer before the shortage was discovered . .

Taxes and insurance are about $800.00 a month.

House payment was $1800.00 a month.

Not the end of the world.......................

True. My problem with our property tax system is that it punishes success and growth. Much like federal income tax.

That’s high! But so is the added 6.5% income tax that we have 😑

I just did some figuring and I think our property tax on land only runs about $1.60-$2.00 an acre (for just pasture/hay meadows/woods). It’s not enough where I really look into it, but is another check to Uncle Sam.

I know that you can have a house on it, but the house is taxed as a permanent improvement.

I'm saying if you want to pay next to no taxes.

Yep, it’s inevitable. I owe real estate taxes on 6 properties every December. Like others have said, I don’t mail my checks till the last week of December.

We are all tenants to the government. A basic tenent of Communism...nobody owns...everybody rents the land.

Technically...those that pay property taxes...are all Socialists. I consider it a necessary evil for infrastructure. By the people for the people.

However...Im happy to fight my tax valuations every year.

Property taxes not due until the end of January why give them your money now?

                    yep it sucks.

but it would also suck to have no roads, police, hospital, schools, colleges, fire depts, food code enforcement, etc...

I rather pay property tax than have a State Income Tax or worse, have both like some states. The state government needs to collect revenue somehow.

What would the property tax be on a section without any exemptions? I’m sure it’s figured on the appraisal, but I’m curious about a ballpark.
Depending on the exemptions obviously changes the taxed value. But on a 300k appraised home say around the Houston area you would be looking at anything from $7500 to $10,500 depending on the taxing authority rates. But most aggregate somewhere between 2.5% and 3.5% on the high end.

Because as an individual you are a cash basis taxpayer and you can only deduct taxes in the year paid. So if you ALWAYS pay in January then you should do the same considering the new 10k tax limitation.

In previous years there were some tax planning strategies around when to pay property taxes.

You can take them as a deduction for 2018 if you pay them before 12/31.
