Property taxes today. My goal years ago was to have my house paid off and four years ago I accomplished this. The sad part is with escalating property values pushing taxes sky high and insurance premiums being high my payments without a mortgage is ridiculous. Im

I never pay mine until the last week it is due. No break for paying early so I wait.

You don't own property. You rent it. And if you improve it, your rent goes up.

Yep, in Texas your mortgage is only part of the story.

Only option is to sell for a place with a lower appraisal which nobody wants to do.

You can also buy land in the county, get Ag exemption on it and live out of an RV. You'll pay next to nothing. But you won't have a house.

Texas has no state income tax. They've gotta pay bills somehow. Since I'm guessing none of you would fork over the gains when you ultimately sell the home, escalating property taxes are just going to happen.

School taxes really **** me off! Look what happened at Crosby ISD where the piece of **** superintendent made out like a bandit and now teachers got laid off for his poor decisions. Too many people are overpaid that are on our tax dollar pay rolls!

I paid mine the other day, not too bad at all (AR), BUT...we have a high state income tax.

What would the property tax be on a section without any exemptions? I’m sure it’s figured on the appraisal, but I’m curious about a ballpark.

You can have a house on property that you also have an ag expemtion on. Don’t have to live in an RV on it lol. Been doing it for many years.

Agree, property tax is the way Texas has chosen to get its tax dollars and we gotta pay the bills somehow.

This. Every time my in-laws family comes here from oversea's, they ask about why American's say they own their homes even though Americans pay property taxes every year.

Lol! No exemptions would be out of the question. My house on a 1/4 acre was $10,000 a year.

I think what he is saying is... a RV is not taxable like a house is. So, ag exempt land and no house tax...is cheap living. Sure you can build a house and would pay taxes on the improvements
