You aren't ever completely in the clear.

I cold turkey quit about 5 years ago for at least 18 months or so...

I was working at the rodeo and talking to a friend that was grabbing a dip and "borrowed" one...then it was just "well, buying one can till the rodeo's over won't hurt"...before I knew it I was back to being the copenhagen kid...

I just cold turkey quit again a couple months ago and unless I get diagnosed with some terminal illness this is IT. I hate that gut wrenching feeling. The third day is the worst. If you are ten days into it you got that puppy whipped....hang in there.

You won't EVER not miss it, but you just have to remember the reasons you quit.

I quit after about 10 years.....you can. I used toothpicks and gum. It may sound stupid, but I just told myself that I simply would not buy another can.
      Keep it up.

I have to agree with these guys as far as ever being SAFE from it... Being over it and not addicted to it is another thing...

I recently quit smoking. Nov 1st 2008.. I was smoke free for about 45 days. No problems after day 3 never looked back.. Turned my nose up everytime I could smell it... Then I had a bad day and bummed one off one of my workers... Then the next day I bummed another one. Then the next day two. Then i was smoking about 5 a day. Then he wasnt around anymore and was "really wanting" one so i stopped and bought a pack and said ill just smoke one and keep the back for when i just have to have one... Yea well biggest mistake ever...

Ive quit many times since I was 13 when I started. The longest has been 3 weeks.. I was really proud of my self this time to be 45 days into and not looking back... I too thought I could have just one and it wouldnt hurt me cause I had it whooped....

You might have it whooped but that one time is gonna take back over.. Once your done your done no matter how ****** off you get or how bad of a day your having... While im not smoking anywhere near what I use too before im still smoking again and have to start my battle all over again.. Also feels like im 16 again cause im having to hide it from everyone that was so proud of me for quiting.

Hang in there and NEVER LOOK BACK

Find something that is a greater motivator; in my case it was my first granddaughter. I quit when she was crawling. She is 10 now and I haven't had a chew in 9.

I dipped for over 30 years, quit 2 years ago, after two weeks I kind of just forgot about it, do not give in, I chew a lot of gum, good luck and do not surrender!

You are free and clear....like cosmic said, remember why you quit. Stay strong, the longer you go the easier it will be.

I quit dipping 5 years ago after dipping for over 15 years. I used to get an urge for a dip every now and then, but now the smell of Copenhagen literally makes me sick.

Stick with it man!...Cope was the hardest thing for me to quit. I quit dipping about 3 years ago and started smoking after 1 year clean. I am smoke free for about 60 days and still Cope clean.

I have been putting $5.00 a day ( money I would have used for smokes) into a ammo can that I welded shut and plan on paying for a Elk hunting trip some day.

                      STAY STRONG BRO!

Congrats. I chewed for 25 years and quit cold turkey almost 6 years ago. I still crave it now and again but I made a promise to myself to never chew again. Don't ever take another one, just one will pull you right back in as it did with me couple of times.

Congrats to you for quitting. My five year quitting anniversary is this month. I dipped Copenhagen for 28 years and quit a hundred times before. For whatever reason this time it worked. It does get better I promise. Hang in there brother.

If it is just the feel of having it between you cheek and gum, try this. I did this when I quit and it worked,
Tear open a Tea Bag and place some of the tea where you would have placed your snuff. Without thinking about it, you really will think it is snuff and it helps cruve the urge to dip the snuff.
I know it worked for me. I have been 2 yrs and still have days with the urge..

I quite 6 years ago now. Several reasons for it, challenged by HS students to stop and when my youngest was 2 he spit right after me that was it.

Every time I start doing something that "required" me to dip, like yard work, I reach for my pocket, even after 6 years. I still laugh that I do that. The nicotine is gone but the habit is still there. To me there is no addiction, because I do not crave it actually I can't even stand the smell of the stuff. I gag every time I get a whiff of it.

A friend of my stick a can in my face and I thought I was going to throw up...

Man, I tell you what a great support group you have here, you're headed in the right direction for sure. I will say quitting Copenhagen was the hardest thing I ever did. I dipped for over 25 years, 1 st time I quit on a new years resolution ( cold turkey ) for 2 years. After a few cold beers on the way to the coast, I bumbed a dip from a BUDDY , next day I had my own can. Then again a couple years later tried to wein myself . In 2000 I decided I would never put it in my mouth again. I still keep that promise today. Even after 8 years I still, once in a while crave it. I can actually take a friends can, open it up, & savor the smell. THEN I HAND IT BACK TO HIM. Stay after it , & whoop it's ARSE.
