I also see the 13/16 argument and the 2 whole pizzas is just to throw you off. Common sense would tell you to multiply 8 slices by 2 pizzas to get 16 slices and 13 were served giving you the fraction of 13/16 served slices. Which to me is also correct.

      i'm confused.

      it would be 13/16 slices.
      13/8 or 1 5/8 pizzas.
question asked for slices served, right? so 13/16 should be correct.

Yep it is my understanding the question should have been worded to ask how many pizzas were served not slices.

I actually think it would be 1 5/8 or 13/8 pizzas were served, but the OP's question was write the fraction for slices served which there were 16 slices, so it would be 13/16 slices. Slices is irrelevant to number of pizzas.

I thought kids didn't get a good education anymore. Apparently I can't even pass 2nd grade math now.

1 is not a fraction, so it was a trick question. I HATE trick questions!

Then I look at the answer key and sure enough it says 13/8 or 1 5/8 are the correct answers.

So no, I'm not smarter than a 2nd grader.
NO sir, I'd say your daughter's teacher is NOT smarter than a 2nd grader... The technical answer to the questions of the "fraction representing "SLICES" served is NOT 13/8 or 1 5/8... There were 16 slices and 13 of them were served... That teacher needs to be body slammed...

Everyone is wrong, including the book/teacher. It asks for the number of slices served in a fraction format. Should not matter how many total slices to begin with, only how many were served, which was thirteen. Answer should be 13/1.

                              13. He didn't serve any fractions of slices he served 13 slices.

                              Xrod beat me to it.
