I need a pistol for snakes

What pistol should I get for snakes? I'm not going to go hunting snakes, I just would rather be prepared if the encounter happened. I would like to keep the price $300-$400.

    Thanks,

    Rob

Try the Snake Charmer .410, I believe it fits into your budget. Plus it won't ricochet as bad.

My father in law just bought one of the Judge pistols a few months back for snake killing... It is pretty neat, it shoots a 45 (or some like that) and a .410...After shooting it we found that you would have to be pretty close to kill with the .410 loaded in there but it does the job within 10-15ft....Give it a look, you might like it as well.....

Any revolver with shot shells works well.
I happen to use my 44 mag with the 44spl shot shell.

theres no need to go buy something expensive, a simple .22 with rat shot will do

I like a 22 also with rat shot for snakes. the snake charmer is hard to carry with you. You can get a good 22 pistol at academy for around $200.00.

I have a Judge. The 410 shells should do a number on snakes, but I haven't tried it yet.

The .45acp CCI rat shot works great. I keep that in the pipe, backed up w/ Talons.

Never had to shoot a rattler more than once.....which is the only snake I shoot down here (but that is for another thread:-)

I use a Ruger single six with the birdshot loads, works on wasps too If You are close enough to shoot a snake with a pistol, You are close enough to kill them with the birdshot loads.......

I have never had much luck with rat shot. not that powerful and if it is not a revolver they do not eject well

Anything that fires a projectile, and it doesn't need to cost $300-$400. The vast majority of snakes shot are those we just want to shoot. I HATE snakes and kill every one I see, but I've never killed one because I had to. This is hardly an issue that requires spending $300-$400 unless you just want to get a new pistol, IMO.
