Give him time. That shot looks really close to a shot I made on my first good buck with a bow. Sounds like he was acting the same too. As long as you didn’t jump him I think you’ll be good in the morning. I saw buzzards in the area that I shot mine at about 3 hours later so I went back to find him and jumped him up. Found him about 24 hours after the shot about 3/4 of a mile away. Here’s the video of my shot.

Looks like I may have gotten a little more penatration than what broke off though. Arrow is solid dark blood on about 4" of what left with some blood spray another 8" or so.

Go back at Midnight with a dog if you can. I bet he's dead. Sounds like it may have gone through and hit opposite shoulder. Broke off and remaining arrow came back out.

This is what I think as well. From the second pic, it looks like the arrow is mainly in the shoulder. Possible the broadhead cut one lung during his sprint.

This is my opinion also. The only shoulder hit was the offside shoulder IMO. One lung hit but the arrow still in him will cut him up inside if it dislodges from his shoulder. Some one lung hits are not fatal, but I'm of the opinion that most are. Get a dog before you stink up the place would be my advice.

I bet he's a dead deer walking unless you actually hit shoulder bone. You could get plenty of initial blood from a muscle wound but it prob would last long.

              Exactly what I thought.

Hard to say. I hit a doe very close to that after she dropped and turned on me this morning. Never found a drop of blood or arrow... hope she makes it and gives me another shot in a week or two...

Man! He is ducking the string hard it looks like.

Good luck man. Let us know.

You did good. "When in doubt, back out!"

One lung. May or may not find him. Good call on backing out. Good placement on a broadside shot. Quartering away, not so much. Wounding deer does suck. I **** near hung it up after losing my first.

If he was licking his lips and wringing his tail then that deer is dead now.. Go find him.. I'm thinking you struck the offside shoulder bone/point and your arrow recoiled back giving the appearance of poor penetration..

I thought about going tonight, but the grass is very tall right now so if it turns into a walk and look deal, I would prefer daylight. It's also already 50 degrees and supposed to cool down to 45 or so. If I were to find him in the morning, do you think meat will still be good?
