Today's bows at 50#s are faster then bows at 70#s 20+ years ago and even back then they had plenty of energy to get pass throughs on deer even at shots past 50 yards. For me the 2 most important things are shot placement and having good arrow flight. If your arrow is wobbling in flight you will loose a lot of energy when the arrow hits the animal and that can cause very poor penetration.

I shoot 65#s. My buddies girlfriend shoots 43# with a Magnus Stinger broadhead and if she doesn't hit any major bones she gets pass throughs on hogs and deer. At 65 pounds I get a lot of pass throughs on 200+ pound boars shooting them through the shoulders but sometimes the off side shoulder will stop the arrow.

Have shot a 60lb bow since 2007.....currently at 58 pounds. Passthroughs on deer are not a problem but like above...the occasional arrow with get stopped by the opposite shoulder. If that happens, I've done my part anyway and don't need a passthrough..

I see no reason for me to ever shoot 70lbs again.

Same.....I would have to do some big game South Africa type trip to even consider it.

For me and this is just my opinion, it depends on the bow. Mine set at 68 is smooth as can be. I shoot my buddies Hoyt set at 62 and can barely pull it back.

1 bows at 84 and the others at 74.

I shoot 70#. If I get to a point where I can't easily draw 70# ( and I mean straight back with no excessive movement), then I have no problem lowering my draw weight. When I first started and the let-off was 50%, I shot at 56#. Killed a lot of animals at that weight with pass through.

60 lbs, only because my bow is maxed out at 60. Would prefer to shoot 70lbs to get more KE. I feel comfortable with both and both get the job done with good shot placement.

I shoot 64# but as I get older I may bring my draw weight down.
