Kinetic energy is way over rated, Your poking a hole in them not trying to knock them down. With a quality broadhead and the speed the 50-60 pound bows shoot today, I to don't see any reason to shoot 70lbs anymore.

I got a new bow about 7 years ago. I dialed it in at 70lbs and spent the entire summer shooting and getting comfortable with the new set-up. I learned, opening morning, that when Im in my blind I sit really low and cant draw 70 in that position..

for that reason I shoot 63-64

Ashby has done countless tests on this. It isn't up for debate.

My recurve arrows are heavier than my compound arrows by a large margin but I get much better target penetration with my compound arrows. Which by the way are traveling 100fps faster than the recurve arrows.

50# Sarrels Blueridge longbow for me. Just killed 10 critters in Africa a couple weeks ago with it!

            What about this?

A 500 grain arrow traveling at 250 feet per second has the same momentum as a 5000 grain arrow going 25 feet per second.

Speed and mass are equally important given the limitations of our equipment. We compromise to get an arrow of appropriate mass going at an appropriate speed.

              I did... learned a lot... thanks y’all.
“Bullets and arrows kill differently” was a pretty good way to sum it up. Makes perfect sense if I’d thought about it. Now if I could just get that to happen before opening my trap!
