The flathead is protected in Texas too... They have separate regulations too. They do not count as part of your 25 fish limit of catfish. They have a 5 fish limit of their own and minimum length is 18" instead of the 12" limit for blues/channel catfish...

          It is amazing the confusion and bad information in this thread!

                Where I grew up too Channels were called willow cats and mudcats were called pollywogs.

                  Channel cat gets my vote. If those are 2x6 boards that would be largest mudcat I've seen.

                          looks like a channel. Either way, channel or mudcat, you will be tossing it back if you had yellowcat before.

                          Never heard yellowcat being called a mudcat before. That makes no sense.
