You only need something that restricts the coon's reach to the length of its arm. Make a circle (just a little smaller circumference than a 55gal barrel) and tie it together. Cut a bottom for it and wire it on. Cut a door in the side to access the timer. The varmint cage only needs to be 10 inches long to keep the coons out. It's 100% coon proof. Yes 100%. We've done this for many years.
See post 27. If it's anything more that 1"X11" mesh they are getting to it. They will even get their shoulder in a 1x2" mesh as you can see in my pics

I can say that the sample I have made has been working at my house for days but I only have squirrels here at the house and the squirrels have had no luck getting to the corn, they haven't even been able to get to the corn sitting on the top of the box let alone the corn on the spinner plate. This was without the control box hooked up to the feeder, I just set the box on the ground with my unit attached and i dropped corn on the spinner plate and box and none of the corn has been touched and there are a lot of squirrels at my house because I feed a lot.

They can't fit their arms in between the plates to reach reach the spinner.
If you like a quiet feeder this AIN'T your option. Those plates make an awful racket.

How much corn gets knocked down by those plates, I would imagine quite a bit with the gap between the plates so small.
Anxious to see your better mousetrap.
