If its a govt job tjey will need a reason to fire you. They could not renew a contract or commission, but they would need a reason to fire. Not saying legally but Im sure its in their policy.

Govt job, I'm sure you're right. I was thinking that Texas in general was what was referenced by the person I quoted.

The company I retired from it was an act of congress to get terminated or a person had to really screw up.

If you got in trouble with the federal agency I retired from they would usually give you a disciplinary promotion.

I knew one guy who was a GS-11 and was caught growing weed. He was transferred and promoted to a GS-13.

My advice to the OP. Lawyer up.

Huntsman27- working years as a supervisor and even as acting level above that and now he says it was a mistake to promote me and I need training and need to be sent to DC even though I have great evaluations and left as an acting level above mine supervisor (his job) for up to 6 months. Crazy

I think where people get confused on the right to work thing is the context of the word "cause".

I don't necessarily need cause to fire you in a right to work state to conduct the initial act of terminating the employees employment in writing or verbally. I do however need to show cause if requested to do so by the TWC, EEOC, Federal District Court, State District Court, etc.......... You can fire an employee for whatever reason but that wont stop a judge from ordering them right back to work and a big fat check for their trouble.

Example: Fire an employee for the color of his skin and see if you don't need "cause".

File a complaint with the Union. I got railroaded in my federal job by a couple managers in CBP, I understand the mentality perfectly of these higher ups.

So since it is a government job they have to show cause for termination. Refusing to relocate is plenty of cause for termination in most situations.

If the OP is an 1811, there is no "union" to join like CBP. FLEOA provides a similar service, but there is no union protection like CBP or BOP. However, there are several ways to skin a cat to fight poor management decisions.

CBP is a dumpster fire in the upper mgt ranks.

Tough situation, sounds political. Do what you have to do, but if it comes down to it move to D.C. for 3 years. I'm sure you will get a good retirement at 49 when all is said and done and you can get another job if you want.

Knowing me and I do know me. I don't take ultimatums well. I personally would pop him in the mouth and quit but that's not for everyone. Probably not the best thing to do I know but like I said. That's just me.
