I lived in Suitland and Silver Springs and worked at 11th and Penn. I loved the area . But I didn't hang at home I went everywhere and did as much as I could . But it is your choice , move and work , or quit your job and start over. Best of luck on your decision.

If you work for the government, I bet there's a lot more to it than him just firing you ... I don't see that going over too well with his boss, especially if you had excellent reviews.

If you work for the federal government of course 'right to work' doesn't apply, and there are certainly avenues to contest relocation. There would have been a selection process if a relocation was necessary. Unfortunately, if the situation is a manager is out to get rid of you you're probably better off getting a different position somewhere, somehow. As already stated, D.C. is one of the last places on earth I would live in. Good luck. D

Not sure what age and race have to do with it. It seems you're on the way out though.

Unfortunately in employment law these things are paramount. A white male is not considered a protected class by race but can be by age. If you aren't a protected class it is near impossible to bring an effective EEO case. A straight white male under the age of 40 virtually has no standing to bring a case to court.

Ahhh copy that, convoluted law that masquerades as "fairness".

According to the government the last part means you have no rights and protection, I'd start looking for another job or Alexandria, VA is nice and a short drive in to DC

I understand that Texas is a right to work state but given the company or government in this case they can't just fire you for the hell of it. I understand allot of jobs you can but a blanket statement they can just fire from all jobs isn't correct.

I would get an employment attorneys advice, quick... Texas is a right to work state; however, that does not mean that you may not have a claim against the company. If there is not a file of paperwork, it makes it much harder for them to defend in court. In addition, recent (in the last couple of years) the protected age has changed... now if you are over 40 you are in an age group that has other protections.

Hopefully one of the TBH HR professionals will chime in soon

I'd side with those saying Texas employment law doesn't apply to a federal employer/employee. As a federal employee it should take a good deal of time to fire you and you should have plenty of appeals throughout the process.

On the other hand, maybe it's time to look for something else. One door closes and a window next door opens - you've just gotta look for it.

I'm going through a similar thing myself right now and I've chosen to find that open window.

Do you not have a HR Department to talk to. If you have a good HR Department, go and file a complaint about how you are treated. If there is truth to what you are saying I bet he will leave you alone. Once they open an investigation on him, he really can't do much.

This is true. HOWEVER, your boss will lose if he challenges your unemployment filing given that you have been employed with the company long enough.

You haven't said what agency you work for or what you do but I would be talking to his boss first to make sure they are aware of the situation and your side of the argument. There is always a chain of command and HR Dept.

Also you can got the EOEC and file a complaint. If they decide there is something to pursue they will go after that company, and provide you legal.

If I was in your situation, I would start looking immediately if you haven't already. Assuming you are not willing to relocate, I would let him fire you. Best case scenario, he is bluffing. If he's not bluffing, you can get unemployment while you look.

Regardless that is obviously a place you don't want to work anymore. Good luck to you. Prayers up!
