DITCHES AND CROWN THE ROAD! As far as the base content, it all depends on how expensive and "dirty" you can put up with? There are many different types of base and $$ spent can range again...dependent on your budget. We fought this same battle for years until I finally found a "road man" who knew what he was doing. With the water drainage solved it added so much more time to the road and cost a lot of $$ less time wise. I had a neighbor who did not take care of the drainage, spent a fortune on a asphalt road and within a year it cracked, buckled due to water drainage. THIS is IMO and from experience the most critical part of road access...the water has to go somewhere. Good luck....oh, get several opinions, bids, do it right the 1st time and enjoy.

Flex Seal. You can get it at Wal-Greens

Check with the Limestone power plant. Don't know if they sell the ash, but they use it on all their roads. Sorry, don't know any one at the plant anymore.

            Research chip & seal.

I've just been through this exact scenario. I replaced and repacked base and decomposed granite 4 times on my driveway. Last time I put down new rd base roll packed it and had a company come in and chip and seal it.

So far it has withstood several heavy rains that would have washed away the old granite and base and still looks as good as the day it was done.

Crush concrete or crushed asphalt. I like the asphalt better myself. Crowning road is a must and drainage on each side as said before.

Anyone know the price per foot for the chip seal? From what I understand it is considerably cheaper than asphalt.

Typically - $1.50 per ft plus material...but they may also just bid it by the job.

                  My driveway is roughly 300' x 16' - they bid the job @ $3500.00

Crushed limestone. Your problem will be solved. I tried to go cheap, wasted my money. Put it down, had a friend run a water truck over it. Wet it,let it dry. Do this a few times and your done. I used 3/4 inch limestone.

CBR45 wet down and compacted. Will be better than crushed concrete.

Edit, didn't see you were in BFE.

IMO chip and seal chips everything and seal nothing at least the way they doing here. Washes away every year. I suppose the quality of the people putting it down has a lot to do with that though.

Dig you some drainage on either side for runoff and lay down some limestone. After a good rain it will set up solid.

I also hear elephants make a good road base to😜

Chew, my place is close to yours so we have the same conditions. The CR that leads to our PR is sealed annually by the county. It won't last long when the rain falls. Underneath the seal will be mush and it will come apart. I'd get crushed rock and crown it.

Fly Ash on top of what you already have down

Redi-mix......10 bags a week, you'll be done in no time!

I'd go with crushed concrete with Portland mixed in.
