We shot one bowfishing once. Buddy reeled it in and I had no idea what it was, he called it a grinnel.

Another rare catch for texas is chain pickerel. There was a ditch near our house where we used to catch them as kids, but I've never caught one anywhere else and haven't caught one in close to 30 years.
Here is their "range":

Down in the swamps they call them Shoepick. As kids, we use to catch a mess of them in the ditches. Take a old crab trap, put a old fish head in it, you would catch a mess of them in no time. People would eat them, so we would give them away. My grandma would not let those things in the house.
