I'll tell you what they catch " stockers " here on. Barkley power bait, about any color but orange and reds seem to be most popular. I have seen them fished under a float, or on the bottom. But most here fish it on the bottom. 6 lb test ,number 6 hook , and about a 1/4 oz of weight. If it's weedy get the bait above the weeds with a float. I like salmon eggs, potzkies ( sp) green label.

Didn't see this mentioned before, but if buying Power Bait, look at the label to see if it's "Floating" or "Sinking." I like to use the "floating" when I use it. 6 lb. test tied to an Eagle Claw Snelled Salmon Egg hook in a size 8 or so with enough split shot to slowly sink it. If there's short vegetation on the lake bottom, leave enough room between the hook and the shot to let it float just above the top of the veg. You may want to use a swivel to adjust your "leader" length and to keep the split shot from sliding down to the hook. Then heave, let it sink, try to remove any slack without reeling the bait back to you, and let it sit until the rod tip starts bouncing. Then reel in your fish.

we always limited out in Frisco when they stocked. Fished for a couple of weeks and caught them well after most had given up. Vast majority of people use too big of hooks and bobbers. I trout fish every week in Oklahoma and we use spinning rods, 6 pound test, treble hooks size 14-18, small split shot, floating garlic power bait. As others said hook about 18 inches from split shot and cast it out. No bobbers, the floating power bait rises up from the bottom. Cabelas will have the hooks and floating garlic power baits. Sometimes you really have to search for the hooks.

Using g bait may allow you to get away with heavier line, you will catcheck more with small.
