    Trout?

They are going to be stocking the lake in McKinney with trout in a couple of weeks. There is going to be a kids day event and I'm taking my granddaughter. Problem is, I've never fished for trout. What size hook? What bait? Bobber or no? All I have ever fished for is crappie, catfish and striper. Help!!!!!!!!

Small hook (like 20) and a piece of whole kernel canned corn always worked good

Inline spinners and salmon eggs work too

Get fluorocarbon tippet in a 7x. Calm water an 8x would be better but it is very thin and easy to break off. A trout can see a fly on a #30 hook, so they definitely can see 10 pound test line. Swift water you can get away with heavier tippet, no the case in calm water.

Using g bait may allow you to get away with heavier line, you will catcheck more with small.

Get an ultralight spinning rod and rig a very small hook with a split shot about 10"-12" above the hook with a small bullet weight above the split shot, no bobber. Similar to a Carolina rig with a split shot instead of a swivel and bead. Then Berkley Power Bait, or salmon eggs, etc.

Get some velveeta cheese and garlic salt or garlic powder. Mix them together and you got a good bait. Fish on the bottom with a split shot and small hook.

She's going to be using a Zebco 202. But thanks.

Use any rod you want, tie the tippet to the end.

                Ultralight spinning gear.
                4lb mono
                small panfish hook.
small split shot about 8" up the line.

Berkley Powerbait in any color, Velveeta cheese or red worms (little wigglers, not nightcrawlers).
PB and Velveeta use just enough to cover the hook.
Kids will cast the velveeta off the hook, the presentation has to be soft.

We usually fish Canyon tailrace where there is current and fish on bottom.

                A lake I'd probably use a bobber.
                Good luck.

Stink bait and treble hook. Leave the trout for the yuppies and catch catfish. Gotta think outside the box old timer

                  Enjoy your day of fishing

Call Sparkles and both of y'all hit the scene with a camera.

I'm hoping some other TBH'ers will be there.

We caught the heck out of browns on worms up in Colorado. A few brook trout, as well.

Yellow Berkley power bait!!! and small small hooks with a short shank. rig up with a fish finder rig and use a small spit shot for the weight about 18 to 24" in front of the hook. Do not use any terminal tackle they can see if the water is clear. 6lb test line with spin cast or spinning gear. Did I say use a small hook!
