I'd recommend using a separate modem and router and getting rid of the Cable company provided equipment. You'll spend a little over $200.00 but it will pay for itself in no time, considering what they charge each month to "lease" you their stuff. I've also found the separate modem/router to perform better than the consolidated devices.

I've redone 4 of my buddies home wifi with the equipment below, while at the same time updating all of the Ethernet and co-ax cables (the latest style connectors provide a lot less interference which in turn, improves performance). There homes are all multi-story and over 4000sq ft. We've seen download speed increase well over 100% for each of 'em. For example, on Time Warner's 100mb MAXX package, my average speeds went from about 15MB per sec to over 60MB per sec. Everyone is very happy with there range/speed now.

Multiple routers is easily but help me understand how you can run two cable modems. Are you splitting the cable company's signal into two sets of IP addresses? I wouldn't think that'd be possible.

Sorry for the confusion. You would get rid of the cable company's combo modem/router and replace with your own separate devices ( 1 modem and 1 router.)

          Clear as mud, lol?

Does this line in the amazon ad mean that plans below that speed aren't authorized?

*Approved on Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Charter and most small regional cable providers for 300+ Mbps plans.

No, it likely means you can "guarantee" to get the 300Mbps you're paying for if you use that model. If you use an inferior model, it might choke out some of the speed you're paying for.

Chew, that's just the max throughput. It will work with plans lower than that. I have Time Warne's 100mb plan, using the equipment listed and it works great. My neighbor can pick up both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz signal with several bars each from inside his house a good ways away.

I replaced my TWC modem with an Arris Surfboard modem. I have the 300mb service and was getting top speeds over 400mbps with the Arris modem. I then added the EERO wifi system and so far my wifi signal around the house is great.

Is that the same products linked to above or something different?

Ive got the same problem as OP. My shop is about 100' from the house but the metal doesn't allow for signal, only when the door is open. Ive got a nest cam that I want inside so I've been looking at extenders. Devin, is that device used on one computer or is it like a repeater, re-broadcasting the signal from the source?
