    Ringneck duck meat question

I took a couple ringnecks out of the freezer last night and breasted them to try to make jerky out of. Now I have heard that they're not good eating so I figured I would use them for some jerky. I'm not sure if that would even be good. After washing my hands and taking a shower I still had the muddy sludge smell on my hands. When I woke up this morning it was still there. Have them marinating in the fridge now.
What can I expect from them? Will the jerky be worth a darn?

Personally, I dont like them, the smell comes with the type of duck and their diet.

If we accidentally shoot ringers, they go in the freezer whole to be given away for dog training.

You mean, you breast them out and freeze them so you can eat them later, like a Game warden would expect you to do, right?

      wink, wink...

I tried making jerky out of it and it ended up tasting like it does anyway you cook it..

Never had a problem with a ringneck tasting bad. Breast them out and throw them on the grill. Now blue bills are a different story.

They'll be fine for jerky making. I make all of my duck/geese into jerky.

"Bad" ducks get wrapped in a lot of bacon and grilled or used in Gumbo at our house.

The only way I eat ducks is like doves. Rap it in bacon and grill to medium. To me blue bills, red heads and ring necks are about the same in the taste category. I don't think there bad at all.

I personally don't care for ring necks any way its cooked, tried a couple different ways last year and it just never worked out.

This is what I do with diver ducks.

I'd focus on duck ID if ringnecks are shoot "accidentally"

We must have a duck I.D. expert here.

As for me I make all my ducks and geese into different types of sausage except for some teal as I prefer them to any other duck for cooking. They all taste good in a sausage.

                              Yes sir!

Ever had a a group of 30 different species dump into the spread and you end up dropping 2 birds with one shot?

I like to take other people shooting with me as well that might not know any better, I can ID birds just fine.
