I held pressure down until it started pulling a vacuum them released the handle as the instructions stated. For $350 I really didnt expect to get a 'bad' vacuum sealer...

This! I have this same unit and have sealed 400 bags in a row without stoping! hands down the best vacuum sealer I have ever owned. I've owned 5 or 6 different food savers never again. This unit is a bit more expensive than your budget but it is an awesome unit.

I have a Vacmaster VP215 as well and dont really seal that much. Its expensive but worth it in my opinion. I got it from webstraunt which was significantly cheaper than the rest of the internet.

This thing is a beast and can seal liquids which was a huge perk to me. I like to cook and sealing meats in marinades was a huge selling point. Its a commercial machine and should last me a decade or two

I was trying to seal raw hamburgwe meat that was unfrozen and had a little blood coming out. Is there a possibility that the auto seal wont work and instead have to use the manual seal for that? It started pulling a vacuuum, but started sealing before it was pulled tight. Foodsavers wouldnt do that, but the auto on the Weston 2300 almost seems to be set on a timer vs the amount of vacuum pulled.

Let me try something other than hamburger meat tonight and post my results again. That was all I had last night, but I can try some fresh backstrap and tenderloins tonight and see how it does. After even more research it appears things with high liquid content, like the burger meat I had, does not do so well unless a paper towel is placed between the meat and the end of the bag to catch the liquid before it reaches the vacuum chamber. If what I try tonight fails I will be sending it back and go from there. But I will post my results none the less after I use it again.

I bet it will be fine. In the "auto" mode, I don't think they like liquids... Don't know if the sensitivity can be adjusted, but I bet if you put something benign in it and try it, you'll find it sucks 'er right down...

I think with them it is luck of the draw first one lasted 12 years but was bought back when they were factory direct only. My replacements only seem to last two or three years. Normally put up about 300 pounds a year.

Tryed a weston commercial last year but it would not do a good job vacuuming all the air of the package.

                        VacMaster VP210

Cheaper bags, can seal liquids, oil bath pump. Will last forever.

For now my wife has shut down that kind of money spending. But if I cant get this Weston to work, I might be going that route. They seem all around better. Just cost so dang much...
