We buy ffa poultry and put the broilers and turkey breasts in bags also fish, deer, pecans, corn, and such so we find lots of uses for one once we got one but the Costco one petered out so we invested in a better one

Alright, I trimmed up a backstrap and tried packaging it up and the results were the same as last night. Didnt get anywhere close to all the air out. Did a few chocolate cookies and it sucked down tight as could be. Not real impressed. Possibly just this one unit, but its enough to shy me away. I will likely order a vp215 due to other reviews on this thread. Seems to be the next most liked one.

If you decide to get the VP215 (which is worth it) check out webstrauntstore.com

They had the best price of $659 shipped no tax. THey go on sale from time to time as well. Black Friday may be a good time to buy. Also, they have a smaller chamber sealer model that is much lighter and technically has a larger sealing bar. It is the VP112S which had good reviews as well, but its not an oiled pump. Its pretty close to the Weston price.

I already ordered the vp215 and shied away from websteraunte due to reviews that people had issues with them not backing a product they sold. I went through amazon instead for another reason in that I need it here asap, and being a prime member I got free 2 day shipping, because I have a deer in the cooler ready to package up Thursday. Basically I waited too long to do all of this and didnt leave myself any time for a faulty unit. Oh well, I paid a little more but will have it here tomorrow.

just looked at the vp215. So you could not do a chicken in this thing or something taller? Does not look very tall?? Am I missing something??. Plus the chamber does not look very big. I need something that will do Nilgai ribs and stuff.
Here is the link I went to
The VacMaster VP215 chamber vacuum packaging machine provides all the great features of the VP210, but with added power! It can apply up to 29 3/4"Hg of suction, when most competitors' models can only reach 26" at most! This powerful tabletop chamber vacuum package machine is ideal for liquids and liquid-rich foods since air is sucked out of the entire chamber when sealing, not just the bag itself. By doing so, the air pressure is equalized both inside and outside of the bag, keeping liquids in and ensuring a superior seal every time. <br><Br> The VacMaster vacuum packer features a 1/5 hp oil pump (3 oz. bottle of oil included) and a 10" wide double seal wire for optimum results and long-lasting use. This unit ships with (20) 6" x 8" bags, (20) 8" x 12" bags, and (20) 10" x 13" bags that are microwave safe, boil safe, freezer safe and perfect for sous vide cooking! Additionally, you will receive 2 filler plates to help save time when sealing smaller batches. It's easy to use and clean too, thanks to its crystal clear digital display and stainless steel construction. The smoky-clear lid makes it easy to see and monitor the vacuum process. This unit works best with soups, stews, and marinades, and can keep game meat and fish fresh over a long period of time. By storing meats scent-free, users can preserve their favorite dishes and help eliminate waste of bulk quantities of foods. <br><Br> This item requires a 110V electrical connection.<br><br> <b><u>Overall Dimensions:</b></u><br> Left to Right: 14" <br> Front to Back: 20" <br> Height: 15" <br><br> <b><u>Chamber Dimensions:</b></u><br> Left to Right: 11 1/4" <br> Front to Back: 15 1/4"<br> Height: 5" <br> Seal Bar: 10 1/4"

Help please I am looking at getting one of these fairly soon

Chamber is 11.25"W x 15.25"L x 5"H. Likely not long enough for a full set of any kind of ribs, but a chicken, especially if the breast bone is cut and laid flat, will likely fit. Be very close if not.

Would you be able to do a full backstrap? Normally we use along 8" bag and put the full strap in there.

If you are talking in one long bag, definitely not. If you fold it maybe. I usually cut mine in 1/3's and freeze that way so I have meal size portions.

VP215 got put to work a little bit tonight and im impressed with it. We have some learning to do with it since you can adjust vacuum, sealing and cool down times, but we'll figure it out. Ill update again as it really gets put through the paces later this season.

To answer your question a little bit better, I do believe you could do a whole chicken intact. If you give me a few days I will buy on Monday and see if I can do it.

I vacuum packed a chicken last night just to see if it would fit and it did. I think it was about a 5.5# chicken, I left it whole and it fit just fine. I think my bags were 10"x13" and the only thing I would say is get a 15" long bag. Reason being is the chicken sits up so high the bag was wanting to crease at the sealer. After a little messing with it though I got the bag flat on the sealing bar and it did a great job. It is tight in a 10" wide bag though. I seasoned the bird before trying to bag it and that pretty much back fired when all my seasoning rubbed off trying to get that bird in there. Anyway, hope all this helps you.
