The goal is not just to be good. The power at the top of CFB seems to be set for some time. Is Strong that good? I doubt it. Is Sumlin.....LOL, NO.
Come 'on man! Charlie has a chance to sit at the table but Sumlin is laugh out loud NO?? Give us a break. Neither has done anything to deserve to be in that discussion but surely you don't think that Chuck has done more that Sumlin do you?

As for actual skins on the wall? Sure. At their current jobs, No.

Record wise (2-1) they are right where the majority of people think they should be but its hasn't looked like it should (defense and kick coverage). This Saturday is pretty telling. My issue is if we feel that game 4 into season 3 feels like a must win it should make everyone look at this a whole lot closer.
Your last sentence is spot on IMO.

              That's fair on both counts

And, if we beat SC, and Tennessee, lose to bama, and win out, is Sumlin a good coach or just lucky? I hope he finally has two coordinators in place that are the right guys. I know chavis is. If these two are the right guys, he may be able to string a couple decent seasons together. Losing young coaches to become head coaches has really hurt him imo. Hopefully these guys are too old to start over as a new HC. Thoughts from the haters??
                Rum....lin

I have also tried to stay away from talking about the ags. I'm not sure what to think about Sumlin at this point, I definitely didn't see them playing this well this year. (but it is still early )

We will definitely find out what kind of coach he is next year though. Loses a lot including Knight (who may or may not be hard to replace - his running has been impressive that's for sure). His failings in roster management will be catching up with him it seems. And this year he's filled up on so many lower rated recruits already, I'm not sure how much winning this year will help the class.

We play USC this weekend. They have far better athletes but they have a lot of issues. I sure hope they don't get it together this weekend.

Stanford did not look great v. UCLA but they got it done. Louisville continues to impress me and I am looking forward to the Clemson game. TAMU had a big win and should do great v. USCe. Looking forward to Michigan v Wisconsin and I think Colorado Buffs continue to play good. The Oregon win was good for their program.

Gonna be a great week for football boys. Ill be at the ranch and we got satellite for the games. I look forward to more spirited discussions regarding CFB.
Good thing we are on Fox this week, and not at 9:30pm!! I'm gonna go hunt Saturday morning then drive back to Houston for the Alumni watch party. I just hope the D can play like they did in the second half against Cal.

You guys need to take several steps back. You can't judge a season 3 or 4 or 5 games in. Especially with a roster as young as this one. Let's see if they improve over the season and have momentum going into next year where something like 19 starters will return.

I do agree, but myself and a lot of people have a gut feeling this is a big game for the team. They play well (w or l) and it's all good. They play bad with two weeks to prepare and coming off the bad Cal game, I think it's an issue.

It's the money sitting at the poker table...

Most of us agree that he should see a fourth year based on his roster flip and hell, they could win out. Who knows!

                          Let's see.
Charlie is 13-15 in the B12, 50-31 overall, & 3-3 in bowl games.
Sumlin is 40-16 in the SEC, 75-33 overall, & 4-2 in bowl games.

                          Am I missing something?
The truth is that both are good coaches but neither have been as good as we had hoped, and we both would like Herman because we think he would get a seat at that table. I still don't see how Charlie can be considered better than Sumlin especially after the coaching job he did against ND last year. Kudos from me for the vast improvement in the game this year.

We aren't judging the season until the end, but there's no denying the next 2 weeks will likely determine Charlie's fate. Lose these 2 and KSU, TT, WVU and TCU are pick ems at best. Split those and you're at 7-5........and I forgot Baylor so could be 6-6.

Will just have to see how it goes. Personally I think they win on Saturday

Charlie got'em rolling. I wouldn't be surprised if they run the table.

                                Yes Hal, you did.

I said it wasn't comparable at their current jobs. Chuck 3 games into year 3, Sumlin 4 games into year 5 (4 games above .500 in SEC play) his clock is ticking.

As for "Skins" Chuck has some good stuff on that resume. Nothing more.
