You could go with 2 bottles of Wellers special reserve and be right at $100.

Worth the money and way better than Canadian whiskey, imo....

If he's typically a Crown drinker, I'm not sure a single malt will be a good idea.

Here you go, tell him he gets the $100 bottle in five years.

Can I come hunt the opener with you?
(Gives a whole new meaning to the word "opener" )

Here is a cool gift idea - Shackleton's best. Great story about this blend and how it came to be.

This might be my route, as I don't know much about whiskey and bourbon. It seems like a safe bet, get him what he likes, just a better version!

Agreed, I'd avoid scotch entirely for him. I think something similarly smooth but better overall would be a good choice, like Jefferson's Reserve, of which you could pick up two bottles for your price range.

I realize taste is subject to each person, but would you put Jeffersons reserve over the more expensive Crowns?

I'd just go with $100 worth of Rebecca Creek.

Blanton's is always a good choice

My personal favorite is Lagavulin 16 but, don't reinvent the wheel. If he likes Crown, get him the best bottle you can get your hands on.

I don't know anything about Canadian whiskeys but Jefferson's Ocean is delicious and around that price. Balvenie has a couple that are good. For just over $100 you could get him their double wood and their carribean cask. 2 great bottles with very different finishes. Whistle Pig is over rated don't pay $100 for it, it's the same as Bulliet but 3x the price.

Garrison Bros is $90 and really good plus it's from Texas. Their cowboy cut is great but it's around $200 normally

Crown is Canadian whiskey and going to be much sweeter than any bourbons imo
