Back 30 years ago I found a British made Tower musket in my grandmother's attic in Richmond, Va. The date stamped on the lock is 1862 - it now hangs above our fireplace. We have a few pieces of Victorian era furniture (1890's) from my wife's family. Most prized is a shelf full of old books that belonged to my maternal grandfather. I never knew him but he is who I was named after. They are mostly classic literature with some Kipling mixed-in and were printed from about 1912 to 1920

In 1865, my great-great grandfather on my mother's side was the roommate at Virginia Military Institute of one of the three students there who formed the fraternity Alpha Tau Omega (ATO). He joined with them, probably in his teens, as a brother in its first class. Knowing none of this, after I joined the University of Virginia Delta Chapter of ATO in 1972, my mother's sister mailed me his black onyx and gold ATO cufflinks engraved on the back with my great-grandfather's initials. In her accompanying note, I first heard the story. I don't wear cufflinks, but I probably should just so I can use them.

until tonight, I had one Twinkie left from a box I bought last week.....
I've got an old Damascus double barrel from my Grandfather who was born in 1899.
That would probably make it date back to the 1920's or 30's.
I guess I need to check and see what it actually is -- I figured I would never shoot it and just hang it on the wall someday.
and Dad left me a pair of Belgium made Sweet Sixteens.
Not sure of their age, but they pre-date me by a few years I know.
Those two still get shot.....
