Need a ruling: Should I pay?

Cousin asked if I would be interested in attending an event where his friend was competing. I said sure, grab two tickets for me and the wife and I'll pay you at the venue. He just sent a text saying he washed the tickets. These were actual tickets, not print outs and cannot be duplicated. Basically SOL on the whole deal. Should I throw him the $70 for my tickets or say sorry bud for the bad luck?

I'd be "Sorry dude...you screwed up"...

Best case, I would offer to split but I'm not paying in full for his screw up.

Certainly there has got to be away he can get them replaced.

Depends on a few things... what type of guy he is and how he acted about it. If he was sincere and offered to pay the full load I would offer to split it since it was only $70. But that's why I don't like to have others buy stuff for me that is expensive. Hope it works out for ya.

I wouldn't expect my cousins to pay me for my screwup.

This. You agreed to buy two tickets for $70. You didn't receive them. None of my family would expect anything if they screwed up.

I wouldn't expect anyone to pay me if I screwed up like that. How close are you and your cousin? Did he actually have the tickets or is he running a game on you?

Considering his financial/ family situation and putting yourself in his shoes, how would you like him to handle it?

I'm not asking if you would take the money in that situation but would you like it if he offered to pay you or told you "it's your screw up" so you eat it?

If he's asking you to pay, that's ridiculous.

If you just feel bad, maybe. But I wouldn't. Nor would I ask if I was in his shoes

That's what I said, has to be some way.He said he will try but the friend mentioned someone lost their tickets to the last event and there was no way to replace them.

I agree. I would have bought them myself but he works with the friend and I believe they have to sell a certain number of tickets themselves.
