Nothing wrong with #4 buck, either. 27 pellets in 2 3/4 inch and 41 pellets in 3inch. It won't penetrate like 00, but it will penetrate plenty at the distance you are shooting, and the probability of getting one or more in the brain is good. I've killed lots of animals with #4 buckshot.

I wounded a huge hog with my .270 one time (wasn't ready and I rushed a shot). So I started heading into the brush with my 20 gauge with slugs and buck shot at the ready.
I got no more than 10 feet into the brush when I turned around and went back. I didn't have much confidence in the 20 gauge quickly dropping a wounded hog.
