THANK YOU. Hearing about "all he had to lose by not fighting" made me think of Pat Tillman. He was the greatest, at boxing.

I'm one of the most patriotic people you'll ever meet and I know for a fact that I'm the most conservative black dude in the world.

But let me see if I understand:

      1. I can't eat in the same restaurant as a white man.

      2. I can't drink out of the same water fountain as a white man.

      3. Hell, I can't even take a dump in same toilet as a white man.

However, I'm good enough to go die in a country by people who ever called me the n-word?

No thanks. [emoji1475] that's not "fighting for freedom" when blacks had no equal freedoms then. Where's the logic in that?[emoji53]

As a 10 year Marine vet, I have absolutely no problem with what he did and apparently The Supreme Court didn't, either.

So the next time you mentioned a draft dodger(s), how bout mentioning John Wayne and Ted Nugent 's name while you're at it. They had no excuse.

RIP to the greatest to ever strap'em up. Rest easy, Champ.

I thought both those guys got medicals.

I have buddies who use that excuse.
They are all deep in DC politics.
One helped Trey Gowdy get elected.
The reasons range from "I would have enlisted, but I have flat feet" to "I have a heart murmur because I was born 4 weeks premature"

I would agree in today's day and age. But back then with Jim Crow laws, I'd done the same thing.

Greatest boxer ever! Very entertaining and sad that the sport is practically dead now. RIP

You're splitting hairs, John Wayne failed his physical because of his injured shoulder.....Ted Nugent applied for student deferment in 1967 and 1968. If those are draft dodgers so be it. Ali, err Clay, lied that it was against his religion, one that he was not even a follower of until he and his ban of merry terrorists decided to use it to get him out of serving. Put lipstick on that pig all you want......

Same reason why so many folks in California have "medical" marijuana cards.
I'll buy that for a dollar!

Jim Crow laws ended in 1965 (overturned by Republicans ironically)....he avoided the draft in 1964 (the first time) by failing a psychological test...had nothing to do with Jim Crow laws when he denied stepping forward at his induction in Houston in 1966. He claimed his religion was against violence, yet he made millions from fighting. He was convicted and lost three appeals.....sentenced to 5 years in prison and a $10K fine.....Supreme Court over turned all the convictions.
