    FEMA Questions

Hey Guys/Gals, been off the GS since the floods hit again. It got us, TWICE.

Not as bad as some so not complaining. Thankful we have our health and are safe.

So I have the exterior walls gutted 24" up and fans have been running since right after it happened. Walls looks dry now and will be treated to make sure no mold started growing. Also all carpet removed of course.

We don't have flood insurance, built on land that has never been known to have flooded, EVER...... so that plan worked well.

Anyways, on to the meaning of this thread.

How does FEMA assistance work. Once they declare this event a disaster, I have to apply for it.

But what happens after that? Time frame to get repairs / money from them?

I'm no contractor but I would guess 7-10K damage in our home.

Thanks for the input, in advance.

Check with your local floodplain administrator first and see if there is preliminary assistance. There is the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA).

    Hope this helps

      How big is your home?

Interior walls need to be opened up and dried as well

You can apply for assistance, but most of the time if you have any sort of means, they will likely only give you an SBA loan.

And get flood insurance. Most estimates for flood repairs are in the 50k and up range.

Appliances, lower cabinets....those add up fast.

Sorry you are having to go through this....

Here is the build thread http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...d.php?t=380508

We drilled 1" holes in the base of the interior walls with trim removed. It dried up fast. They still might remove them but good for now I guess.

Water didn't kill any appliances or electronics. Got everything unplugged.

Instead of starting a new thread I would also like advice on stained concrete.

We really didn't care for the carpet anyways so now would be a time to change all that.

Don't know about FEMA assistance, but I called my insurance company about flood insurance due to all of this rain. I live on Duck Creek and my lot is about 10' outside of the 100 year flood plain. Lot is built up about 18". My regular homeowners insurance is about $2,100/year. They said that flood insurance would be about $2,150/year additional and that I would have to call the state about getting it.

There was a thread about that just a week or so back. Use the search button on TBH and you'll find it.

Basically with stained concrete, like anything, you get what you pay for. I have a buddy who does it. He's not cheap but his stuff will hold up.
Just seen where you're at. Pm me if you'd like his number

I am ASSUMING (lol never a good idea) they are going to wait for the tax day flood deadline to end and then declare this go round.

This does not sound right to me. Flood Policies are federal. I got $250,000 coverage for like $450. If you are inside the flood plain something may be different. I would ask around for sure.
