FEMA brings in all these jack wagons from around the country for an extended vacation at taxpayer expense is my best assessment.

That's pretty much been my experience with it. If you have any means at all expect a low interest loan at best. In Katrina everybody that applied got a $2500 debit card but past that I don't know. All the tire and rim rental places and liquor stores had sighs up saying they were accepting the FEMA cards. FEMA eventually stopped just handing them out to everybody and of course that made folks mad too.
Good luck with the repairs. My flood estimates for .5 to an inch of water were often over $60k. Some were over $100k. Depends on flooring and cabinets etc and size of the home.

Yeah, there will always be abuse of handouts.

      I answered every question truthfully.

He even asked if we will need "housing" while repairs are done. I said NO, I can get an RV to park in the driveway. I refuse to abuse funds they are there to help and not take advantage. Wish more people would do things like that but sadly, NO... oh well, I can lay me head peacefully at night

glad it worked for you! we applied back in 2007? marble falls flood and fema decided that we wouldnt of been able to pay the money back so we ended up having to do it all on our own. we estimated it was somewhere around 250,000 worth of damage.

As far as I'm concerned the whole FEMA/flood insurance racket is about as corrupt as anything I have experienced in the US. Compares favorably to the way some third world countries I have had the pleasure of visiting are operated.

                    Are you serious?

I think FEMA has done a good job IMO

I certainly can't complain. Filed for assistance Saturday, was called Sunday to set appointment Monday for agent to come out. Approved for assistance today.

Glad you think so. Almost everyone in my neighborhood was responsible enough to have flood insurance. So anyone with flood insurance was automatically not eligible. The one family that did not have insurance got 11k and were then offered a "low interest" SBA loan. The interest rate on the loan was around 3.5% which anyone with decent credit can get at any bank. They knew someone who had received a SBA loan at less than 2%. When they went back and asked about a lower rate they were told that since they had such good credit and no debt they had other resources available.
