It's kinda like the officers wife demanding her vehicle be saluted when entering the base. You didn't earn it. dependants get plenty of benefits, a private business can go bankrupt giving away food under cost
Well, well, I sure didn't think I'd start an argument when I started this thread! I was just simply wondering if anyone knew if Chick Fil A stopped the discounts.
And for he record for those that had this line of thinking....I do not EXPECT a discount or feel I DESERVE one, but when you are used to being given one and EVERY Chick Fil A I've been too, then are told they no longer give them, it just came as a big surprise and I thought the guy that said that just didn't know.
Truly disappointed with some of the comments about our vets on here. I never served but I know a bunch of ladies and gents who did. Some came back others came back draped with an American flag over them.
I don't know the OP but I wonder if that discount maybe is needed? I don't know. I guess that what blows more and more about our nation, no one seems to care for the people that have our backs. Some of the comments about farmers etc.
I keep thinking when farmers were dodging bullets, ISIS etc and coming back in body bags. These guys don't get paid squat as it is. I guess my age and appreciation for them mean a bit more to me, maybe not to you. Oh well to each their own.

I did serve three combat tours and vets don't need a discount on a chicken sandwich or any other food. Their dependants don't "deserve" it either. It's a discount from a food chain, not healthcare. If someone wants to be nice and offer a discount I will accept it graciously. It is never asked for or expected.
The moment you feel you are entitled to a benefit you don't deserve it

Well first off, I appreciate your service to our country. I think it is a great thing when a business chooses to offer on their own a accord, a discount to military personnel. This is a kind gesture that does take some money out of there pockets. Now can you imagine if every dependant of a past or present service member started flashing around credentials to try and save 50 cents off a sandwich? It would add up quick. You have to admit that your wife using a dependant card to get herself a discount is kind of taking advantage of a benefit given to us veterans. Reasons like this are why some merchants are forced to stop the bleeding.
wow! seems most here have taken my comments all wrong. I said it before and I will say it again, I was only surprised when I heard they discontinued it. Never said it was expected, deserved or anything of the sort. I just and only just wanted to know if they stopped it.

I spent 8 yrs in as well, also three tours as a grunt and I applaud you. My sentiments as well.
After 24 years in the USAF I purchased a TPWD Super Combo Hunting and Fishing License. I retire and they started issuing them for Free to Active Duty Military. Greatness. I not disappointed and like when my money goes by paying for the license every year. Would I like to have it free? Heck Yes.
I do like the discounts and I think it's a good gesture. To all the Vets out there:

I missed this post
No. No its not.
It's no where ****ing close to being "kinda like".
Not one iota.
Not the same ball park.
Not the same universe.
Its so far from being "kinda like" you should be drug tested.

It is in the case that they are demanding something that their husbands earned. Where is my salute?
Yes military personnel working the gates are required to salute your car due to the blue on your base sticker regardless of who is driving the car. They are literally saluting "the sticker" even when it is obviously not a military member driving the car. Dependants have on occasion stopped and demanded "their salute" when the service member forgets to do it. The dependant is demanding something they did nothing to earn, "the salute". Which is very similar and KINDA LIKE demanding a military discount for something your husband earned not you. Hopefully that helps you make the connection between the two and get in the same ballpark or universe
And to the op I don't think anyone doubts your position or thinks you were demanding anything. I think the conversation and question just veered slightly away from your situation to one that is hypothetical.

How about you stay respectful to others and accept another persons point of view. We all have our opinion, right or wrong but a little tact goes a long way.
Don't know what type of service you did or what you have to contribute to this discussion but saying people are on meth because you disagree with them is unacceptable.
