Yep, people don't believe it, but they're definitely there. I got bitten by a rattler 6 or 7 years ago on Surfside beach and spent the better part of a week at UTMB Galveston...

when we stayed there the dunes were full of them, and not a sign nowhere warning of their presence. we already were aware of them but you can be sure that a lot of visitors are not.
I'm not trying to start anything with you here, but that's really no different than saying they don't have signs warning about sharks in the gulf, or about possible undertow in the surf. The local government can't possibly warn people about every potential danger. People have gotta assume responsibility for their own safety.

I would think many more people are aware that there are sharks in the salt water than there are folks who would consider that rattle snakes would be a potential danger on or around the beach. I can honestly say that this threat potential would have never crossed my mind. I'm not from the area and am not aware. You are correct though that the government can't warn of every threat, but if placing some signs warning g of the potential danger of venomous snakes keep a 5 year old from getting nailed by a rattle snake, I'm all for it. On trips where we've been to the beach, I'm alot less watchful when the kids aren't near the water. If they're running g around in the dunes and playing soccer on the beach, I don't have much to worry about. If they're near the water, I'm eyes like a hawk, watching every move they make. Because of this thread, I'm now aware that I need to be cautious of other threats in the area, not just in the water. I think it would be a good public service to place some signs warning of the potentially deadly threat to a child or elderly person. We spend ALOT of tax dollars on BS stuff, public warnings of potentially life threatening dangers are not a waste IMHO.
Good post, I agree 100%
