I've seen one caught by the back leg in a snare get mean down by Sweetwater. I shot him with a .243 and he flipped right back on all fours when we walked up. I shot him 6 times in the ear hole with a .22 revolver. He'd shake his head and charge at me every time I shot him. I shot him again from point blank range with the .243,got him out of the snare and we loaded him in the back of an old Suburban. We started back to the ranch and I could hear him breathing. Luckily he never stood back up but I thought he was going to.

But having said that he was cornered and hurt. I can't blame him for tryin to slice and dice me. I've never seen one that wasn't cornered charge at anyone though.

I carried a gun in my hip from time to time back then if I felt I needed it. I had a 45 not 100 yards away that day in my mule but it wasn't doing me any good.

Nowadays I carry a Ruger 44 magnum carbine. It's a great knockout gun.

We have thousands of hogs under our belt, most trapped, and I think this is a very accurate assessment of hogs and how they respond to human contact.

Luckily I have yet to be on the receiving end of those nasty things.

              Close but no cigar.

              Yet.

That's it! Screw them modern day bayonets (pistols), they'll get ya hurt.

My initial thought was lead poisoning would have been better.

Than I thought about it and Chuckled :-)

I was scouting a new area a couple months ago and come over a small knoll and a loan boar jumped up took two steps away then turned and looked at me and never hesitated came right for me I jumped out of the way just as he got close and lucky for me he kept going and did not come back for me cause I was got if he did I had nowhere to go.
