Being that I live in San Angelo...My main choice would be #3) West. There are some really good deer all around San Angelo.

Not saying it's any better than other choices but I just absolutely love hunting this area. It's a very special place to me.

Having said that, I'm really hoping to be able to hunt South Texas as well one day. That's definitely on my bucket list along with Mexico.

It depends on the size of the property. If I could have a lot of land, I'd pick south. But with a little land, I'd pick the hill country west of San Antonio. And it really is a close tie between those two. I value the abundance and diversity of game animals, not the size. It may sound corny, but I love to hunt the land, and what the land provides. So often times, I look at the land and what it holds, rather than the quality of one animal that resides there. Deer, hogs, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, dove, to name just a few are what I look for. Love hunting javis... but the hill country has axis...

I love hunting the area around San Angelo ......have been hunting the area for over 40 years. I can tell you that harvesting larger deer depends on a combination of great genetics, great management by the land owner and all of the area hunters, and good nutrition off of natural browse, as well as added supplemental feeding. I have been lucky to have hunted with some very good management minded hunters ,land owners, etc.....many of them on TBH.

That being said.... I would like to try the panhandle and South Texas as well as some other pockets in the state where I have never hunted. I just love to hunt big deer, but would have a hard time switching totally to another area.

if I could afford it I would go towards the panhandle for both WT and MD.
