I was having a conversation with a gentleman earlier about Texas deer hunting and it came about where he thought was best places to hunt. I'm not referring to specific property's just regions of the state. If you could hunt any area/county where would it be? In regards to both numbers of whitetails and chance at some nice bucks. He said his opinion was there are 3 great areas in Texas. 1) south- being everything south of San Antonio and west of 37, 2) north- everything in the triangle formed between witchita falls, Lubbock, and amrallio and 3) West- everything within 100 miles of San Angelo. Your vote doesn't have to be one of these areas just what he classified as area to have chance at big bucks

I would choose #2. I have hunted up close to the Palo Duro Canyon area the last 8 yrs and it is the most beautiful part of the state to me. BIG body deer 200#plus, big racks and a nice mix of Mulies.

I'm also going to add the hill country for numbers & exotics. Not the biggest deer in the state but some great deer on some well managed properties

Maverick County. Big deer and the hunting is much easier down there.
