    Value chainsaw?

I need a chainsaw. I don't need anything really big or heavy duty. This is mostly for the occasional tree trimming and some deer lease work. I doubt I'd use it 10 times a year. Is there something inexpensive that's worth getting? Or should I just suck it up and buy a small Echo? Tractor Supply has a small Poulan on sale for $99, but the reviews suggest I'd be better off buying t-post driver and hitting myself in the head with it.

    Thanks in advance.

I am a believer in good chainsaws and generators. The cheapness never work when you need them the most

      Value chainsaw?

Get a good saw or you'll be spending more time than money jacking with a lower end one.

I've had the same Stihl (sp) for 10 years at least. It starts up every time.

What they said....you want it to work when you pick it up, Stihl, or Echo...not sure if Husqvarna's are any good.

Nope. And if it's being used infrequently be very cautious about what you put in it. Tru Fuel is your friend.

if you are going to prune a indoor plant, buy a Homelite. if you want to cut a real tree, buy a Stihl.

I am living proof to the bold type above. And got the scalp scare to prove it.

I inherited a Poulan. And now know why my grandfather never had it re-repaired. After receiving it, I had it repaired one time. And only one time. They don't call them "Poulan" for nothing. Cause you will be constantly "pull-n" on them when they "ain't broke." Edit: the repair I had made cost as much as buying a new one would have. And pnly lasted one summer with little use. There are a lot of plastic parts inside that break.

Bite the bullet and bought my self a Stihl 271. No regrets on that one! And should last the rest of my life. Can use a 16", 18", or 20" bar and chain.

                    Okay thanks guys.

Are Husqvarnas any good? Northern Tool has some reconditioned ones at a nice price. Guy told me once to stay away from them since few people work on them. And maybe that's just another reason to buy an Echo or a Stihl..........

Echo best bang for the buck if you don't use them everyday

Try the pawn shops. I bought my MS290 for right at $100 and it was in great shape. Also found a MS192 TC for $60 that was a little loved. Stihl product are built to last and can be rebuild on the back of your tail gate.

As stated above, buy echo or stihl and only run pre-mixed non-ethanol fuel in them and will crank right up every time. I have both brands.
