Last long training ruck before Bataan. We did get in the full 22 miles (I started the Garmin late) and it was warm, humid and long.

Folks got another dose of what it means to move at that distance under that weight, and it's not all sunshine and lollipops. Tempers frayed, but didn't break, and a couple of them came face to face with the demon that tells you to drop your ruck and quit, but stood back up and finished. Three more training rucks before game day, two 8's and one 12.

The team is ready, they can all finish Bataan.

Sidenote: I was talking to one of the guys on our team who is a MD, and I was joking around with him that the data I get from my Garmin is pretty depressing when it comes to the miles we're putting in and the caloric burn I'm showing we're getting. He told me, and I don't know if he was pumping sunshine or has his reasoning based in facts, that because of the weight we are carrying to multiply the calorie burn I'm showing by 2.5-3.0 to get a more realistic number.

That made me feel better and quit thinking about how much my feet hurt at the time.

    For a little bit.

Interesting fun fact for the day: Per my data, the team has racked up 200+ miles in preparation for the Bataan Memorial Death March since our training cycle began on 30 December 2015. By way of comparison, it is 130 miles from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, 199 miles from San Antonio to Pasadena, TX and 167 Miles from San Antonio to Waco. So far the team has logged the equivalent of 2.7 trips to Austin.

Had some morale patches made up for the team that I'll present to them when we cross the finish line.

Great looking patch. You all are prepared, I dont think many have paid their training dues like yall have.

Also great point about the calorie burn with the packs.

We are just at 200 miles too but that's without the 35 pound beast on our backs.

Strong work, can't wait to hear the results of the actual march. The 20th is coming up pretty quick so y'all have to be getting pretty much ready for the big day. Best of luck to you and your group and thanks for all the updates. This is very motivating stuff.

Last "long" ruck of the training cycle. The team has gelled and is ready for Bataan this Sunday. It's been an honor and a privilege training this group. All the miles, hills and sweat are going to be worth it.

Last ruck of the training cycle. By my records that's +/- 250 miles in the books and almost 10,000' of elevation gain.

                Sunday is go time.

I'll be rucking these tomorrow in honor of the Battling *******s and for Sergeant Justin Evert. I was approached at packet pick up and asked to carry Sgt. Evert. Totally random. I looked up Sgt. Evert. A Brother. A Marine. It will be my honor. We take care of our own.

A little background on the Brother I'll carry tomorrow.

The couple celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary five days before French Valley Marine Sgt. Justin Everett was killed in a Feb. 22 helicopter crash.

                        Back To Bataan 2016

I just got back from the area. Had the kids out at White Sands. You should have great weather! We were staying east of Cloudcroft. Alamogordo is still Alamogordo 30 years later. Class of 93!

To 1369 : Thank you for honoring people like my late uncle and my late dad: Capt Eulalio Arzaga and Capt Eliseo Mallari, my Uncle Ely was a Bataan Death march survivor as were many of their brethren in the 26th Calvary Filipino American Scouts. My dad went on and became a Silver Star w/Gallantry recipient and also a Bronze Star..my Uncle is buried in Killeen not far from the gates of Fort Hood where h lived for some 40 years..My dad at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio

If they were both still with us not only would they want to salute you for a job well done but shake your hand for marching for guys like them...I will raise a glass in your honor and salute you and say a big THANK YOU from our families...

Team is in and finished. A slower track (deep sand) and a larger group to tend to had us an hour slower than last year. Very proud of my folks. 13 started and 13 crossed the finish line. I'm gonna have pizza and beer and then tend to my very large ow. Which is everything. Ruck weighed 55# at the finish.

Huge Congratulations to you and your team. You did a great job leading these folks to the finish.

I hope you took some good pics as you did last year.
