Academy Gun Counter...

I dont go to stores often.
I buy most of my stuff on line but the last time I was in Academy, they were trying to sell a fellow a 500 S&W for a carry concealed gun

Was he Andre the Giant sized?

I like to stand in the ammo and listen to them. Cracks me up. Had one awhile back that told me I could shoot .45 out of my .40 if I just changed the mags. They were out of 40 ammo.

Wow. I woulda probably smacked him. That could get someone hurt. .45 wouldn't fit but it it were the other way around. Wow.

I have a buddy that worked for TPWD doing the creel surveys. He had some sort of fisheries wildlife degree. He decided to moonlight at Academy to make extra money. Went through the interview, told them what he did for a living, and they put him in the shoe department. The guy working the gun counter was in college and was a walk on for the basketball team.

Reason I went to Abel's in Huntsville recently. Yes, I knew I would pay more. But, I expect that for great service and knowledge.

lot different than it was 20 years ago when I worked there, by God!

I worked in the hunting/fishing, and I can only think of one person back there at the time that didn't hunt... he lived with his parents, played golf all the time, and talked about getting so mad he'd like to get a gun and just start shooting people. but otherwise... pretty solid group. LOL

Mac, I know exactly which "older fella" you are talking about. I go in there at least twice a week and he gives the worst customer service and acts like it is the end of the world to help someone out. THATS WHAT YOUR THERE FOR DUMMY!

I don't even bother speaking to him if he is the only one behind the counter

Like someone said, This was at the Victoria Academy. I went to the manager place and no one was there and the manager was gone. Called a number I found and filed a complaint. Lucky for me, I have a pretty good memory of names and this was the second report filed in the week on the guy.

I should have finished the story. After he told me this, I questioned him while kind of playing dumb. He went on to tell me that the recoil would be bad but it would work. I started dropping some knowledge on him and he got mad and told me I was an idiot for not believing him. He got all hot and bothered and went to get some backup as I was leaving.

It's like that everywhere. I stopped in to Bass Pro to pick up some Nocturnals last week and couldnt believe what I was hearing. A young man just out of the military was wanting to buy a bow. He wanted a quality hunting setup and was not concerned with cost. The archery dept guy told him that a whisker biscuit rest would be by far the best option as the fall away rests never work right. When the bass pro guy went to check on something I asked if I could help him. 30 minutes later he had a fully rigged PSE with Qad ultra rest, carbon arrows, Scott release and some slick tricks. He told me the Bass Pro guys said that Toxic broadheads were their number one seller because nothing else works as well. You never know what you are gonna hear. Glad you helped the lady buy the 22.

we wouldn't like the prices if they had to staff every counter with the kind of knowledge many of us have and i can't think of many of us that would work behind that counter.

I can appreciate their lack of knowledge they should probably be trained to say I'm not an expert I'm just here to show you what we have. If you want to ask questions go to a gun store then move over to academy to buy it for much cheaper.
