I had my buddy set up on a long beard coming in on a string last April. It was a run-n-gun style hunt and of course this turkey was probably 200 yards from the fence line, if that. All of a sudden the neighbor (JUST on his side of the fence) starts lighting up pistol rounds. We were on a ridge top so the pops echo'd like crazy. Really sucks.

I've had deer at my feeder with a neighbor target shooting about a hundred yards away and it didn't bother the deer one bit. Barely twitched an ear. It might be because we pretty much bow hunt only so I don't think they equate gunfire with danger.

So you don't hate him with a fiery passion anymore. Good for you.

          I never said that.

We usually have to stop shooting to let deer cross the shooting range. They didn't go to school and don't know what gunfire is. They don't leave the county every time it thunders. Look at the positive, if it spooks deer, then they aren't on his place.

                Ding ding

I don't know why folks get so irritated with people shooting guns during "hunting hours". What's your hunting hours to my hunting hours? Maybe I'd rather be in the stand from 10am-2pm. Then what? You going to shoot anyway because it's mid day? Well maybe I like to hunt mid day, so maybe I'll shoot in the morning while you're on stand?

I'm just rambling, but you have to think about it like that. If it's just the fact of having to listen to a gun being fired throughout your whole sit, I can understand the frustration if you'd rather have silence to take in Mother Nature. But if you're worried it's running the deer off, that's just simply far from the truth. Gun shots don't scare deer unless their buddy hits the ground or the bullet hits their feet.

Hopefully you will have a more peaceful day tomorrow

Could be worse though, my neighbor behind me does not shoot and make lots of noise. He built a high fence so he could put some exotics in a ~400ac pasture and charge people to come shoot them. The hunting operation flopped but the high fence is still there. Cut the major travel route that the deer used and ruined my hunting for several years.

Luckily it is finally getting back to decent hunting.

It doesn't bother the does and yearlings but I've noticed it keeps the bucks just back inside the treeline. I've spotted several hanging out back there with binoculars. They do seem to react to the gunfire. Still nothing to do about it.

It used to bother me a ton but I realized the deer dont care at all. I had 6 does and 2 bucks in front of me once while the neighbor was blasting away with an AR and they didnt even lift up their heads. This is east texas though so they are more than used to it...

Lots of gun fire can effect deer movement. Especially big bucks. So can any loud noise or non-regular activity.

It's fine to be annoyed at a neighbor. I agree that it's respect for others issue vs "it's my land I'll do what I want" issue. I don't care what someone does on their land so much as long as it doesn't infringe on my enjoyment of the property. If it's having a negative impact, it's time to do something about it. The action just depends on the situation. Talk to the owner, change your hunting times, sell or move to another lease...

I have duck hunters that shoot constantly in the AM and the deer disappear from that area until the next day. OR it will just be a doe or two that braves it.

Sitting here in my blind and the neighbor decided to get on his four wheeler and come to the fence and sit there revving the motor. There's 20-30 yards of tree, so I can only hear. Then takes off and it goes quiet. Then out of the blue busts off about 15 pistol shots. Freaking idiot. Oh wait. Here he comes again. I understand "his land", but this is bs. My activities have no effect on his enjoyment of his property. This is not an accident.

If we have guests we like them to take a few shots mid day to ensure the rifle is on but we sight in before the season so none of that really. And guests are usually thanksgiving weekend or after.

That's understandable. But to sit directly across the fence line and do that isn't an accident. But hey, I've only been in this set 16 years. [emoji848]
