    did I do right?

My buddy invited me out to his lease to go deer hunting for the weekend. After I got a small doe in the morning we went back out for the evening hunt. Right before dark the biggest deer I have ever seen in person walked out of the woods (probably would have been 200+) he never gave me a broad shot but starred right at me and thought about shooting him right straight in the front. Well, then I started thinking that I'm the guest here, it's been a long time since someone over here has killed a big deer, it's my buddy's stand, etc., etc. When I looked back through my scope to see him it was to dark and couldn't see anything. Needless to say he walked away and I never pulled the trigger. Was I a fool for letting him walk and not taking the shot? Thanks

No deer is worth a friendship. If you were unclear or hesitant you absolutely made the right decision.

Those are questions you gotta ask your buddy before you go. In the sense of getting asked back, you did great you will be asked back. As far as the shot and not knowing how close or far he was I say you did well.

Depends on what y'all agreed on at camp.

My guest know what they can and can not shot before we get to the lease.

If I don't think they understand we hunt together.

If you had the ok to shoot, and were rifle hunting I'll just say I would be headed to the taxi. But if it's not a shot you were comfortable with, you definitely made the right decision

              When in doubt, hold out.

This. Although I had a similar thing happen to me. When I got back to camp I told my buddy and he said "You idiot! Why didn't you kill him!"

I knew I did the right thing anyway, because I should have asked that question before I went to the stand...

Friendship is worth more than a deer. Good call

You did good. However, if I invite my friend I would be very excited for him to have taken the big buck. For me it's not about ME harvesting a big buck but it's about making memories with friends and family. Good for you showing restraint. You sound like a great friend.
