    Yep.
I was in an Academy store at 10:30 AM Saturday.
First thing I see is a Prius with DU logos all over it.
Walk in and there's a 20 something year old in head to toe Drake waterfowl clothing with face paint still on.
He's talking to the gun counter guys about how he killed his limit in just under an hour but he had to camp out over night to do it.

More money to DU and wildlife conservation all around... Sounds like a win to me even if it is a bit of a hassle. I'll take it!

^^ this also is unfortunately true...its not that more people want to join our sport, its the ones who don't know or care to learn the sportsmanship of it, cutting in line, setting up too close, taking hail marry shots at birds that they will wound and never find...

then you have these kinds of yahoos ZERO respect for Mother nature and make stupid life threatening decisions

.... think they can run Go Devil / Gator Tail mud boats down the MS River to hunt ducks in Venice. Bad weather compounded with heavy tug boat traffic & high waves caused their boats to sink. Very luck to be alive

Now THAT is a serious downside to hunter recruitment... hunting media has done a terrible job of promoting sportsman/woodsmanship, all they focus on is brand promotion and arbitrary scoring systems.

Every time I see most hunting TV shows all I see is

BANG! "YEEHAW LOOK AT ME I GOT ME A BIGGUN RIGHT HERE AND I COULDNTA DUN IT WITHOUT MAH REALTREE SUPER INVISIFLAGE AND THIS HERE PRIMOS GIGGITYDOE COOCHIEMAX CALL!!!"

Luckily there seems to be a new generation of hunting media with shows like Meat Eater and Solo Hunter that actually focus on what hunting should be about.

If this is your first year to duck hunt I'd definitely go the guided route for a year or maybe 2 to see how well you like it. Duck leases are expensive but if you can get a group to split it and see yourself hunting 10+ times a year then a lease seems like a no brainer to me.

Man hearing all this shocks me. I hunt a 6 acre pond 25 minutes NE of McKinney and limit out every morning I hunt in under 20 minutes. Hunted it about 20 times last year. Never throw more than 8-12 decoys out.

Better hang on to that pond.....

What kind of ducks are you limiting out on?

Hoghunter, not sure what type of lease you are looking for? We have the best of both worlds in my area. Natural Marshes and Rice Fields. 2 different types of hunting that require different equipment and blind set-ups.

Teal, Woodies, and Gadwalls early. Then Green heads later in the season when or if it get cold enough.

I don't duck hunt, but I heard some guys at work e days before teal season opener this year talking about driving by McFadden and that there were guys camping out to get spots that had already been there for 2 days!!!!!!! So camping out 5 days in advance just to get a spot! They said there were at least 10 groups there already with 5 days to go! Ain't nothing in the woods around here worth that especially for the chance to shoot 6 teal!!!!

Save your money, go hunt a few times a year in south Arkansas on public lands. No blind necessary. I'd walk out with 2 dozen decoys and my gun. We always shot a limit of mallards, the trouble was finding 2 other ducks to fill the last two spots so you could leave with all 6 ducks. You could get probably 5 good weekend long hunts out of that for cheaper than most duck leases.
